M. Marie Martin Guard, 85, formerly of 202 Harding St., Linden, died at 8:10 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2000, in St. Anthony Health Care Center in Lafayette. Mrs. Guard was a postal employee for 20 years, and she worked at Raybestos in Crawfordsville. Born April 15, 1915, in Darlington, she moved from Darlington to Linden in 1932 and was a graduate of Linden High School. She married Forest Guard in 1933 in Linden. He died Jan. 29, 1957. Mrs. Guard was a 50year member of Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara (Harold) Coopman and Phyllis (John) Austin, both of Lafayette; a son, Timothy Guard of Linden; six sisters, Rosalie (Alonzo) Booher and Helen Gay, both of Lafayette, Lucy Chambers of Crawfordsville, Mae (Charles) Smith of Las Vegas, Nev., Della Deeb of Rochester and Doris Snellenbarger of New Richmond; two brothers, Richard Martin of New Richmond and Lawrence Martin of Boswell; and 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter and eight brothers and sisters. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, with the pastors of Faith Baptist Church officiating. Interment was in Linden Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Faith Baptist Church, Lafayette. – jlr
